Hostilities between the United States and Iran have escalated over the past week. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that after Iranian forces targeted U.S. warships twice in two days, U.S. forces attacked a total of five Iranian oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman and near Kharg Island—Iran’s primary oil terminal. In retaliation, Iran launched missile strikes against a U.S. base in Jordan; Jordanian authorities reported that 20 missiles were fired, 18 of which were intercepted by air defense systems.
